5 Running Back Sleepers for Fantasy Football 2024
In the ever-evolving world of fantasy football, finding sleeper picks can be the key to dominating your league. In our latest Fantasy Football Counselor podcast episode, we delve into five running backs who have the potential to be game-changers in the 2024 season. These hidden gems are Zamir White, Nick Chubb, Jonathon Brooks, Tyjae Spears, and Trey Benson. Let’s explore their profiles, stats, and why they could shine this upcoming NFL season.
1. Zamir White
Team: Las Vegas Raiders
2023 Stats – 120 carries, 560 yards, 5 touchdowns
Zamir White, also known as “Zeus,” has the physicality and explosiveness to break through defenses. With Josh Jacobs likely taking a step back due to potential contract disputes, White is poised to seize the opportunity. His impressive speed and agility, combined with a solid preseason, indicate he could be a valuable asset for fantasy managers looking for a breakout player.
With little competition in the backfield, Zamir will be the man. Alexander Mattison was brought in for some depth, but I’m not expecting much out of him in 2024. With an average draft position of round 5 for Zamir, he is a draft steal this season.
2. Nick Chubb
Team: Cleveland Browns
2023 Stats: 280 carries, 1,412 yards, 12 touchdowns
While Nick Chubb may not be a traditional sleeper, his value often gets overshadowed by higher-profile running backs. Chubb’s consistency and durability make him a reliable choice, especially in PPR leagues where his receiving skills are underrated. As the Browns’ offensive line remains robust, Chubb’s ability to churn out yardage and touchdowns makes him a potential top-five running back this season.
This isn’t my favorite sleeper this season, but he is great value in drafts. Coming off that terrible knee injury I question his ability to play on a top level. Value in drafts is the only thing that has gotten our attention.
3. Jonathon Brooks
Team: Texas Longhorns (College)
2023 Stats: 200 carries, 1,080 yards, 10 touchdowns
Transitioning from college to the NFL, Jonathon Brooks is a name to watch. His standout performances at Texas have showcased his vision and breakaway speed. Brooks’ ability to find gaps and make explosive plays could translate well to the pro level.
He is in a landing spot where he is the clear-cut RB one in Carolina. I am not concerned at all with Chuba Hubbard or Miles Sanders. Draft with confidence in the mid to later rounds of your fantasy football drafts!
4. Tyjae Spears
Team: Tulane Green Wave (College)
2023 Stats: 220 carries, 1,250 yards, 15 touchdowns
Tyjae Spears has been a dominant force at Tulane, displaying remarkable elusiveness and pass-catching abilities. His versatility makes him a dual-threat running back who can contribute both on the ground and through the air. Spears’ skill set fits perfectly in modern NFL offenses that prioritize versatile playmakers, making him an intriguing sleeper for the 2024 season.
He takes over Derrick Henry’s role as the starter with 280 Attempts freed up! The upside is massive, and I love the talent!
5. Trey Benson
Team: Florida State Seminoles (College)
2023 Stats: 210 carries, 1,100 yards, 11 touchdowns
Trey Benson has been turning heads at Florida State with his powerful running style and knack for finding the end zone. His ability to break tackles and gain yards after contact makes him a potential fantasy star. As he transitions to the NFL, Benson’s physicality and nose for the goal line could make him a valuable asset, particularly in standard-scoring leagues.
I like the landing spot in Arizona and don’t see Connor getting the work there out with the old and in with the new, more dynamic talent. I like the draft value as well. Benson is sitting at RB 42, while people think James Connor is the RB 1, sitting at RB 21.
Final Thoughts
These five running back sleepers—Zamir White, Nick Chubb, Jonathon Brooks, Tyjae Spears, and Trey Benson—each possess unique skills and potential that could make them standout fantasy performers in 2024.
