Henry is entering the later stage of his career. He is around 32 years old and heading into what feels like his 11th or 12th season. At some point, the decline comes. It might not be gradual either. With older running backs, the cliff can show up fast. One year the player still looks like a monster, and the next year the burst is gone. That is the risk.

There is also a question of whether the team manages his workload more carefully. Last season, his carries were reduced later in the year, which could be a sign that the coaching staff knows they cannot run him into the ground forever. The depth chart supports that. Jaden Blue is not a serious threat to take over the backfield. The Cowboys did not invest heavily in another running back. This is Williams’ job unless something changes dramatically.

The offensive environment is also strong. Dallas has Dak Prescott. They have CeeDee Lamb. They have George Pickens. That means defenses cannot simply stack the box every snap. 7. Jeremiah Love

Jeremiah Love is one of the riskiest names on this list, but he also has one of the highest ceilings.

That is the entire conversation.

Love is not being ranked here because the situation is perfect. It is not perfect. The Cardinals could be a bad team. The offensive line still has questions. The quarterback situation needs to be better. The receivers need to help prevent stacked boxes. There are also other backs in the mix, including James Conner and Tyler Allgeier. That creates real concern.

But the reason Love still belongs in the top-10 conversation is because of his talent and investment. He was drafted third overall and is one of the highest-paid rookie running backs of all time. 6. Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley comes in at number six because he still has a strong combination of safety, volume, and bounce-back appeal.

Last season was a regression year. That was expected after his massive 2024 season, when he rushed for 2,005 yards and scored 355 fantasy points. Seasons like that are almost impossible to duplicate. When a running back has a pinnacle year, the next season usually brings a decline.

That is exactly what happened.

Barkley dropped to 232 fantasy points in 2025 and finished 14th among running backs. That was a major fall from the previous year, but it does not mean he is done. In fact, the decline may have created a bounce-back opportunity.

He still handled 280 rushing attempts last season. That is strong volume. Volume keeps running backs alive in fantasy football. When a player still gets that much work, he remains a major factor.

The Eagles offense also continues to provide opportunity. A.J. Brown is gone, which could lead to a different offensive identity. The passing game still has options, but the team may lean more on the run. Barkley remains the clear lead back, and there is no major committee concern threatening his weekly role.

There are some limitations. Jalen Hurts can steal goal-line touchdowns. That has always been part of the issue for Eagles running backs. The offensive line also needs to stay healthy, especially with aging pieces and injury concerns. If the blocking breaks down, Barkley’s efficiency can suffer.

There is also the question of explosive runs. Walter Football noted that Barkley ranked poorly in explosive runs last season, which could suggest that the heavy 2024 workload affected him. It could also mean he simply needed a season to reset after massive usage. Either way, he is still one of the safer backs in fantasy.

Barkley may not have the ceiling he had two years ago, but he does not need to match that season to finish top 10. If he stays healthy, handles 250-plus carries, and scores enough touchdowns, he can comfortably return RB1 value.

He is not my favorite target at ADP, but he belongs in the rankings.

5. Ashton Jeanty

Ashton Jeanty is one of the most debated backs in fantasy football for 2026.

The talent is obvious. He is compact, strong, explosive, and capable of handling serious work. The concern is whether his situation is clean enough to justify the draft cost.

Last year, Jeanty dealt with a brutal rushing environment. He was dead last in yards before contact and was often hit in the backfield before he had a chance to get moving. That makes his rookie season easier to understand. It is hard for any running back to produce efficiently when the offensive line is losing immediately.

The Raiders have made changes that should help. Colton Miller returns at left tackle. The team added Tyler Linderbaum, one of the best centers in football. They also drafted a guard early. If the offensive line takes a major step forward, Jeanty’s efficiency could jump in a big way.

There is also a coaching upgrade in the run game. A better scheme can make a huge difference for a running back who was constantly fighting through contact behind the line of scrimmage.

The quarterback situation also matters. There has been talk of Kirk Cousins starting, but the long-term hope is that Mendoza eventually takes over. If the offense becomes more functional, Jeanty benefits.

Washington was drafted to have a role, and reports suggest he could be used more than fantasy managers want to admit. If Washington takes goal-line work or meaningful early-down touches, that would cap Jeanty’s ceiling. That is why I personally have less stock in Jeanty compared to players like Omarion Hampton. Still, Jeanty belongs inside the top five because the upside is massive.

If Washington is just a depth piece and Jeanty gets the true lead role behind an improved line, he can absolutely finish top five. The talent is there. The offensive improvements are there. The buy-low case is there.

This is a player who can either make you look smart or frustrate you if the committee becomes real.

Jeanty is not risk-free, but the ceiling is too high to leave him outside the top five.

4. James Cook

James Cook is as safe and strong as it gets.

He is one of the best running backs in football, and he plays in one of the best offensive environments. That is exactly what you want in fantasy.

Cook led the league in rushing last season with 1,621 rushing yards. He scored 12 touchdowns, and the year before that, he scored 16 touchdowns. He has produced 28 rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons, which is incredible considering Josh Allen is always a threat to steal rushing work near the goal line.

That touchdown production matters because it shows Cook is not just a yardage back. He can finish drives. He can score. He can be trusted in big moments.

The Bills also improved the offense by adding DJ Moore, which should help Cook. Buffalo has lacked a true outside receiving threat in recent years. Khalil Shakir is more of a slot receiver, and the offense needed more downfield respect. If Moore stretches defenses and forces safeties to play honest, Cook should have more room to run.

That is why there may still be more upside here.

Some managers may argue that Cook’s 1,621 rushing yards were a pinnacle number and could regress. That is fair. But his profile is more stable than older backs because he is still only 26 and entering his fifth season. There is still juice left. This is not a worn-down veteran at the edge of collapse.

There is no major committee threat. The offense is elite. The quarterback is elite. The touchdown upside is real. The receiving ability is there. He can be drafted as a first-round or early-second-round running back and still return strong value.

He is the type of player you feel good about clicking because you are not projecting a massive role change. He already has the role. You are just betting on the same strong production continuing in a slightly improved offensive environment.

James Cook is a clear top-five fantasy football running back for 2026.

3. Omarion Hampton

Omarion Hampton is one of the biggest upside running backs in fantasy football for 2026, and there is a real argument that he could finish as the RB1 overall.

The excitement is not random. It is based on talent, situation, volume, and coaching.

Hampton is big, strong, explosive, and capable of handling a complete workload. He can run between the tackles. He can catch passes. He can stay on the field near the goal line. That last point matters because several other backs in this range have possible touchdown threats behind them. Jeanty has Mike Washington. Jeremiah Love has Tyler Allgeier. Hampton does not have that same concern.

There has been some noise around Keaton Mitchell, but that does not move the needle. Mitchell is a backup. He is not threatening Hampton’s role. Hampton was drafted in the first round and is the superior talent. This should be his backfield.

The injury concern from last season appears to be overblown. Fantasy managers are still holding some fear from that, which creates value. In earlier drafts, Hampton was available around the late first or early second. That may not last. If camp reports are strong, he could climb into the top five overall.

This is why drafting early can create an edge.

Hampton gives you youth, receiving upside, goal-line upside, and an improving offense. That is everything you want in an early-round running back.

I like him ahead of several more established names because he is ascending. Fantasy football is about what happens next, not what happened last year.

2. Bijan Robinson

Bijan Robinson is one of the safest elite running backs in fantasy football.

He comes in at number two, but nobody should be upset if they draft him first overall. He has the talent, the durability, the receiving ability, and the projected workload to dominate.

The biggest reason Robinson feels safe is that Tyler Allgeier is gone. Allgeier had been a frustrating touchdown and volume pest in Atlanta. Even when Bijan was clearly the superior player, the Falcons continued giving Allgeier meaningful touches. That capped Bijan’s full upside.

Now that obstacle is gone.

The team brought in Brian Robinson Jr., but he does not carry the same threat. He is new to the offense and should not command the same loyalty or role that Allgeier had. Bijan is the franchise back. This should be his show.

Robinson is strong, explosive, reliable, and capable of winning in every phase of the game. He can handle rushing volume. He can catch passes. He can score touchdowns. He can stay on the field in key situations.

That combination gives him one of the highest floors in fantasy football.

The only reason he is not number one is because Jahmyr Gibbs may have a slightly higher ceiling if the Lions fully unleash him. But Bijan may actually be the safer pick because there is less concern about a backup stealing meaningful work.

If you are drafting at 1.02 and Gibbs goes first, you take Bijan and move on. There is no need to panic. There is no need to overthink it. He is an elite running back in an improved situation with a clear path to volume.

Bijan Robinson is a locked-in top-two fantasy football running back for 2026.

1. Jahmyr Gibbs

Jahmyr Gibbs is the 1.01 for fantasy football 2026.

He is the number one running back, the number one overall player, and the player with the highest ceiling in fantasy football if Detroit finally lets him run wild. The reason is simple: David Montgomery is gone.

For years, Montgomery was a major obstacle to Gibbs’ full breakout. He took carries. He took goal-line work. He took touchdowns. He forced Detroit into the “Sonic and Knuckles” narrative when the obvious answer was to keep feeding the better player.

Now Montgomery is out of the way, and Isiah Pacheco is the backup.
