Welcome to the impact series! In this episode, we discuss the 2020 Fantasy Football Value of DeAndre Hopkins. The Fantasy Football Counselor Breaks it down for you.
Should you Draft DeAndre Hopkins in 2020 Fantasy Football?
This question keeps coming up since he joined the Arizona Cardinals. I highly suggest you watch the video here attached to this article. I want to note that this new home for Hopkins has more negatives than positives.
Hopkins finished #5 amongst wide receivers in 2019 with 268.5 fantasy points per. 150 targets, 104 receptions, 1165 receiving yards and 7 Td’s. This lower than his 2018 totals where he finished 1st amongst wide receivers, more targets, reception, and touchdowns. One of the main parts of his success is volume. The volume of targets helps ever wide receiver and this is what I am concerned about now that he is in Arizona.
I feel that Hopkins will see lower targets as long as Fitzgerald, Drake, and Kirk are healthy and playing. If you look at last year’s 2019 numbers, Larry Fitzgerald WR #1 on the team peaked at 109 targets, 74 receptions and 4 Td’s. Kirk came in right after him with 107 targets, 68 receptions and 3 Td’s. Drake and David Johns saw there small share of receptions as well. 68 targets for Drake and 47 for DJ. What this is telling me is that the ball gets spread around and that no ONE wide receiver stands out.
If the situation stays the same, I can’t imagine Hopkins getting enough volume to make him a top 5 wide receiver again.
Be cautious when you are looking at possibly drafting him this upcoming season. I am personally staying away.
