The 2024 fantasy football season is shaping up to be an exciting one with several players poised for breakout performances. On the #1 fantasy football Counselor podcast, we discussed the top 10 breakout players for 2024, highlighting their upside and potential to dominate the field. Here’s a detailed analysis of these players, their 2023 stats, and scouting reports that support their breakout potential.
Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey, wide receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs, has shown tremendous promise. In 2023, he recorded 30 receptions for 478 yards and 2 touchdowns. Known for his quickness and agility, McConkey has the potential to become a primary target on the Chargers and Herbert’s NO 1 Target. He has PPR machine written all over him.
I love the upside and the fantasy football draft value in 2024. Coming off in rounds 7-8 in 12 person leagues. Sign up on all rosters this season.
Scouting Report
- Strengths: Exceptional route-running, reliable hands, and explosive speed.
- Weaknesses: Needs to improve physicality to handle tougher defenders.
- 2024 Outlook: With his ability to create separation and growing role in the offense, McConkey is set to become a fantasy favorite and a PPR Monster.
Malik Nabers
Malik Nabers, wide receiver for LSU, had a breakout season in 2023 with 89 receptions for 1569 yards and 14 touchdowns. His ability to make big plays downfield makes him an intriguing fantasy prospect. He ends up on the Giants and is the clear-cut WR1 with Zero competition. It is all up to Daniel Jones to step up and feed him consistently.
He is primed to get a ton of volume and targets this season and could be a top 10 Fantasy Football WR this season. I love the talent and upside for Nabers in 2024. Draft him.
Scouting Report
- Strengths: Great size and catch radius, excellent ball skills.
- Weaknesses: Inconsistent hands, needs to refine route running.
- 2024 Outlook: With another year of development, Nabers could become one of the top receivers in college football.
Tyjae Spears
Tyjae Spears, running back for the Tulane Green Wave, rushed for 453 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2023. His vision and elusiveness make him a top candidate for a breakout season. He is the replacement for Derrick Henry and he will eat this season.
280 rushing attempts are not freed up with Derrick Henry going to the Ravens, and someone has to pick up the slack. Spears is the man! He is also going to be at our fantasy sports summit in August 21st.
Scouting Report
- Strengths: Exceptional agility, strong vision, and quick burst.
- Weaknesses: Durability concerns, needs to improve pass protection.
- 2024 Outlook: Spears’ ability to make defenders miss and his potential for increased workload makes him a valuable fantasy asset.
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy, wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns, posted 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2023. His speed and playmaking ability make him a standout player. He joins the crowded WR core with the Chiefs and could make a big impact.
I feel many things need to happen for him to be a big fantasy points contributor. Rashee Rice needs to serve a long suspension, and Hollywood Brown has to be nonrelevant. No matter what, Kelce will still be the WR1.
Jim the Maverick has this guy as a breakout, but I don’t agree due to the lack of upside with many WR options for Mahomes.
Scouting Report
- Strengths: Elite speed, excellent after-the-catch ability.
- Weaknesses: Needs to bulk up to withstand physical coverage.
- 2024 Outlook: Worthy’s explosive play style and chemistry with his Mahomes give him major breakout potential.
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman, wide receiver for Michigan State, had 50 receptions for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2023. His size and physicality make him a tough matchup for defenders.
Scouting Report
- Strengths: Strong hands, good physical presence, and solid route running.
- Weaknesses: He needs to improve consistency, and some people say he has separation issues.
- 2024 Outlook: Coleman’s ability to win contested catches and his potential for a larger role make him a breakout candidate.
Jayden Daniels
Jayden Daniels, quarterback for LSU, threw for 3812 yards and 40 touchdowns while adding 1134 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns in 2023. His dual-threat ability is precious in fantasy football, and he is set to make an immediate impact in the NFL in 2024.
I typically draft QB with a solid and safe upside, but Jayden is a risk. I love him, but would prefer having a QB that is proven.
Scouting Report
- Strengths: Dual-threat ability, strong arm, and quick decision-making.
- Weaknesses: Needs to improve accuracy and consistency.
- 2024 Outlook: Daniels’ rushing ability combined with his improving passing game makes him a top breakout candidate. I this him and Ben Sinnott could be a solid stack for leagues this season.
Zamir White
Zamir White, running back for the Las Vegas Raiders, rushed for 451 yards and 1 touchdown in 2023. Known for his power running style, White has the potential to take on a more significant role in the offense. Now with Josh Jacobs gone, look for Zamir to be the new workhorse in Vegas in 2024.
I love the 5th-6th round draft value and he is set to boom this season.
Scouting Report
- Strengths: Powerful runner, good vision, and strong at the goal line.
- Weaknesses: Needs to improve pass-catching skills.
- 2024 Outlook: White’s potential to become the lead back and his goal-line prowess make him a valuable fantasy option.
Brock Bowers
Brock Bowers, tight end for the Georgia Bulldogs, recorded 56 receptions for 714 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2023. His athleticism and versatility make him a unique weapon. I am not crazy on his fantasy football outlook due to his landing spot and his QB situation.
Scouting Report
- Strengths: Athleticism, versatility, and strong hands.
- Weaknesses: Needs to improve blocking skills.
- 2024 Outlook: Bowers’ ability to line up in multiple positions and his red-zone presence make him a top breakout candidate.
Trey Benson
Trey Benson, running back for Florida State, rushed for 906 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2023. His blend of size and speed makes him a dynamic runner. He is and should be the RB1 in Arizona and replace the washed-up James Conner in 2024 and beyond.
He is the top RB prospect out of this 2024 draft and should be starting for the Cardinals come the start of this season.
Scouting Report
- Strengths: Size, speed, and ability to break tackles.
- Weaknesses: Needs to improve vision and patience.
- 2024 Outlook: Benson’s potential to become the feature back and his big-play ability make him an exciting fantasy prospect.
Marshawn Lloyd
Marshawn Lloyd, running back for USC, rushed for 820 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2023. His explosive running style and pass-catching ability make him a versatile threat. I feel he will dip into Josh Jacobs Volume this season and is the more explosive RB.
Scouting Report
- Strengths: Explosive runner, good pass-catching skills.
- Weaknesses: Needs to improve durability.
- 2024 Outlook: Lloyd’s versatility and potential for increased workload position him for a breakout season.
