While it is smart to wait on a QB, you still want to secure an ace quarterback on your roster. You can literally wait until the end of the draft to get one but the Counselor likes to secure the ace. This is your nonconsensus QB rankings list and you need to secure one of these aces in the correct round. If you are in the 6th- 7th round in a 12 person league, you will see guys like Josh Allen and Russell Wilson available. So many people are focused on getting Pat Mahomes and Lamar Jackson but have to realize you can wait on a QB. In a 2 QB or Superflex league you will have to invest an earlier draft pick, but for the most part, you should just wait on a QB.
There is a ton of QB sleepers this year as well. You can get Rivers, Big Ben, Drew Lock, and Teddy Bridgewater later in your drafts and all of these guys could offer QB1 fantasy value. You should be focusing on securing running backs earlier in your draft because it is the most scarce position. After round 5 you will not be able to get a true RB1, while in round 6 and after you can still land a QB1 with top 3 potential.
This is what I talk about in my 16 Rounds draft solution. You grab the solution and you will have a balanced roster full of optimal players.
